The Italian government announced a raft of other measures to contain a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, which is also spreading across the rest of Europe.

The new restrictions take effect on November 5 and will be in place until December 3, according to a decree signed by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

A night-time curfew will be imposed between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. across the country and museums and exhibitions will also be closed.

Shopping centres will be closed on weekends and schools will also switch to full-time online learning, while public transportation will only operate at 50 percent capacity.

Other measures included a ban on people leaving or entering cities and towns in designated high-risk areas. Residents in those highest-risk zones will be allowed to leave only for specific business or health reasons.

However, there was no confirmation yet as to whether areas to be classified as high-risk zones had been agreed on by national and regional authorities.

On Wednesday, Italy registered 30,550 new coronavirus cases and 352 fatalities.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, Italy has so far recorded close to 760,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 39,000 deaths.
