Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam and Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Ho Iat Seng on Thursday sent their condolences to those affected by the record rainfall in central China's Henan Province.

Noting that millions of people in Henan have been affected by the record rain and ensuing floods since the past weekend, Lam wrote on social media that with the all-out efforts of the central and provincial governments, she believes the residents affected by the disaster can be properly taken care of.

She also said there is no time to lose in the global fight against climate change, referring to the recent floods and heatwaves in Europe and North America.

Lam also called for more effort in making Hong Kong carbon neutral by 2050, which was proposed in her policy address last year.

Ho wrote in his message to Wang Kai, governor of Henan Province, saying that he has called on people from all walks of life in Macao to support the affected in Henan through different channels and methods.

"With joint effort, we will win the battle against the flood," he wrote.
