NEW DELHI, Nov. 19 (APD)- -According to recent reports, more than eight Indian army soldiers have been trapped under snow since Monday afternoon at Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir.

The soldiers got trapped when an avalanche came over a patrol team. Currently the army is making efforts to rescue the soldiers trapped under snow.

The avalanche that stuck at 1500 hours might have also destroyed some army camps in the area, according to some experts.

The mishap took place in the northern part of the Sichen glacier, which is at an altitude of more than 18,000 feet above sea level. The soldiers are trapped between the height of 18,000 and 19,000 feet.

Siachen is one of the highest military posts in the world and accidents involving snow have often occurred there. Earlier in 2016, around ten soldiers died under snow as an avalanche stuck their camp.

Some experts have repeatedly argued for de-militarization of the Sichen glacier from both the Indian and Pakistani side, especially during the winter months. However, both countries have not made a decision on the issue.
