Fiji re-elected to council of International Seabed Authority

Fiji was re-elected on Friday to the council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) for a four- year period starting from Jan. 1, 2015, the Fijian government announced.

Fiji's re-election to the council was achieved at the elections held in the assembly of the ISA in Jamaica on Friday (Fiji time), according to Fiji's Ministry of Information.

The ISA, which has 166 members as of March 11, 2014, is an autonomous international organization established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

As the executive organ of the ISA, the council consists 36 members elected by the assembly.
