Soil pollution, taxes on China's legislative agenda

The standing committee of China's top legislature, National People's Congress, convened its bi-monthly session on Thursday.

Legislators will continue to review drafts of laws on supervision, a tobacco leaf tax, a ship tonnage tax and the prevention of soil pollution, as well as a draft revision to the law on farmers' specialized cooperatives.

Up for deliberation are bills to discuss draft laws on basic medical care and health promotion, international criminal judicial assistance, and a draft revision to the law on metrology.

Other bills, including those to review the draft law on the people's juror system, and draft revisions to laws on judges and prosecutors, will also be discussed during the session.

Lawmakers will also consider a number of reports, including one on the implementation of the cybersecurity law and the protection of online information.
