Why is the price of coffee about to be going up?

Baristas, we have a problem! The price of a daily cup of coffee is about to get more expensive. Extreme weather has damaged coffee bean crops in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee exporter.

Officials say supplies could be tight for the next two years. In neighboring Colombia, political protests and shipping issues have added to the jitters. The price of coffee beans is at a seven-year high.

Coffee giants like Starbucks and Nestle say they will not have to deal with the problem right now. Both companies buy their coffee beans well in advance.

Smaller mom-and-pop coffee shops may suffer the most. But analysts say coffee is such a part of people’s lives that higher prices will likely not keep them from their daily java jolt.
