The Ukrainian Post has reported experiencing temporary difficulties in the delivery of mail in Crimea, according to a statement of the Luxembourg Institute of Regulation published on Tuesday.

The Ukrainian state post Ukrpochta has requested the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to inform the postal operators of the UPU member countries to suspend the shipment to Ukraine of mail addressed to the Crimea.

"On account of the current situation in Ukraine, particularly in the Crimean Peninsula, the distribution of all types of mailings to residents of Crimea and Sevastopol presents difficulties," the Ukrainian post explained.

Ukrposhta added that it would inform the global posts of the recovery of distribution as soon as the situation has changed.

The Director General of the UPU, Bishar A. Hussein, said in a message that the organization hopes that the parties concerned will find a effective solution as soon as possible.

According to statistics from the UPU, Ukraine received in 2012 about 20 million letters and more than 2 million parcels from abroad.
