Local authorities said they will hold a moment of silence on Friday for the people killed in a massive landslide in Maoxian County, southwest China's Sichuan Province over the weekend.

The moment of silence is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. local time (0200GMT) and last one minute to mourn the victims. The websites of local government have also turned black and white.

The landslide struck Xinmo village in Maoxian County on Saturday morning, burying over 100 people and 62 homes. A second landslide struck the area on Tuesday and over 2,000 rescue workers who were working around the clock to locate people buried in the debris were evacuated.

Ten bodies have so far been retrieved from the rubble but the death toll was expected to rise.
