At least 9 killed, 30 wounded in blast in Philippine president home city

At least nine people were killed and nearly 30 others injured in a powerful explosion which rocked a night market late Friday in Davao City, hometown of Philippine president, police and media reports said.

Reports said the explosion went off past 10 p.m. local time along Roxas Avenue, a place that is converted into a night market that is also lined with eateries.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is now in Davao City, where he has been the mayor for more than 20 years, but he is safe.

Police Senior Inspector Catherine De la Rey told GMA News confirming that at least 30 were injured but she said the number of deaths are still being verified.
