China holds road show in Indonesia to promote its Int’l Import Expo

JAKARTA, March 13 (APD) — A Chinese delegation conducted a road show here on Tuesday, aimed at attracting Indonesian business circle to take part in China International Import Expo (CIIE) slated for November 5 to 10 in Shanghai.

The delegation led by Deputy Director General for Asian Affairs at China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) Liu Jun encouraged Indonesian exporters to tap potential business opportunities from China’s growing and lucrative domestic consumer market, which was projected to import goods and services up to 10 trillion U.S. Dollars in the next five years.

“The CIIE would promote economic globalization, actively opens the Chinese market for the world,” Liu Jun told a press conference held in Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade premises here.

More than 3,000 enterprises from over 200 counties and regions have confirmed their participation in the expo with was expected to be catered by at least 150,000 trade professionals and buyers from across the world, according to Liu Jun.

The China’s initial large-scale consumer product expo was expected to promote international trade in Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI).

The expo would showcase myriad of tangible and intangible consumer products, comprising of high-end products, high technology instruments, automotive, electronics, sanitary, apparel, foods, medical equipments, tourism, health services and many others.

With international ambience of the event, exporters from each country and region taking part in the event has huge opportunities to expand their business by establishing contacts with counterparts from around the world, he said.

He added that some 240,000 square meters of floor would be provided in the venue to host the event at Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center.

The CIIE was initially announced by President Xi Jinping in Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing May last year.

Hailing the upcoming CIIE event, Director General for National Export Development at Indonesia Trade Ministry Arlinda Imbang Jaya said that the event would provide solution to help Indonesia improve its export to China following deficit it registered in the last several years.

“This is a good opportunity to reduce our trade deficit with China,” she said.

Indonesia registered 14.2 billion U.S. Dollars of non-oil and gas trade with China last year, lower than 15.57 billion U.S. Dollars a year earlier.

Arlindo said that her ministry would coordinate with related ministries and agencies to organize national exporters’ participation in the expo.

The ministry has asked an allocation of 1,000 square meters for Indonesian exhibitors during the expo.
