Syria on Thursday accused Turkey of aiding terrorists in the country, saying that such support has helped prolong the Syrian conflict, the state news agency SANA reported.
Syria has long criticized Turkey's response to the regional crisis, accusing Turkey of "violent aggression" against Syria.
In a statement on Thursday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry maintained this position, stressing that Turkey supports radical rebel groups in Syria, which has worsened the crisis and left thousands of families displaced from their cities and villages.
It accused Turkey of becoming a "base of support for terrorists, " who have been battling the Syrian government for over three years.
The Syrian government has recently slammed ideas put forward by the Turkish government that called for the imposition of buffer zones on Syrian soil.
The ministry urged the UN Security Council to "deal with the threats posed by the aggressive policies of the Turkish government. "
Syria's Foreign Ministry has previously called on the international community to pressure Ankara "to stop its unlimited support to armed terrorist groups" in the country.
