Admiral Sun Jianguo to expound China's stance on security issues at Shangri-La Dialogue

Admiral Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of the Joint Staff Department of China's Central Military Commission, will deliver a speech elaborating China's stance on international and regional security issues at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a spokesman said on Friday.

Yang Yujun, spokesman of China's Defense Ministry, told the Chinese media that Admiral Sun will deliver a speech themed "the Challenges of Conflict Resolution" at the plenary session of the 15th Shangri-La Dialogue on Sunday.

He will introduce Chinese army's efforts in maintaining peace, security and stability in the world and the Asia-Pacific region, and explain China's position on international and regional security issues, the spokesman said.

"Sun will focus on issues like strengthening security cooperation, promote regional security governance, and expound on China's policy ideas and practices." added Yang.

On the sidelines of this year's Shangri-La Dialogue, Sun will also meet with defense ministers, military chiefs, high-ranking defense officials from over 10 countries to exchange views on issues of common concern.

The 15th Shangri-La Dialogue, an Asia-Pacific defense and security summit, kicks off on Friday. This year's dialogue will be attended by over 560 delegates from 52 nations and regions, including 32 official delegations.

According to the organizer, the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) think tank, participants comprise defence ministers, senior security officials, military chiefs, diplomats, executives from the corporate sector as well as academics and a significant media presence.
