**BERLIN, Oct. 17 (APD) ** - Germany authorities have released a set of network security guidelines that subsequently allows China’s giant tech firm Huawei to bid for 5G internet network projects in the country despite the United States warning of Chinese espionage in the firm’s 5G service.

The guidelines require network contractors and suppliers to prove they are trustworthy and will not transmit confidential information abroad.

Germany Energy and Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said on Tuesday that 5G technology is a critical infrastructure for the technology of the future. Government requires highest security standards both for 5G hardware and software.

Germany’s Deutsche Telecom is already in the test phase of its 5G network in Bonn and Berlin, while Hamburg, Munich, Darmstadt and Leipzig are expected to follow. The 5G networks is expected to serve Germany’s 20 biggest cities by the end of 2020. The 5G data networks are capable to transfer data 1,000 times faster than the 4G networks.

Huawei has denied accusations that its 5G networks is used as “backdoor” access for China to tap confidential information. Huawei currently holds world’s largest number of 5G technology patents.

“Politicizing cyber security will only hinder technology development and social progress while doing nothing to address the security challenges face by all countries,” a Huawei spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Besides issued warning on Chinese espionage in Huawei’s 5G networks, the United States also warned countries dealing with Huawei could face problems with their security cooperation with the country.
