Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) side Beijing has already set their eyes on upcoming journeys after placing first when remaining matches of the 2019-20 season were canceled.

As Chinese Basketball Association announced the cancelation on Wednesday, final standings of the season are confirmed to be those after 18 rounds of action, meaning that Beijing came out the top-ranked side.

"It came all of a sudden. We've been preparing for possible resumption of the league," Beijing's head coach Zhang Yunsong said on Thursday, adding that he had a mixed feeling when learning about the news.

"The results finally arrived, but we also felt a little pity. We performed well in the first half, and hoped to keep our momentum in the second. But we had to take it due to the pandemic and prepare again for what lies ahead," he noted.

Guard Qi Site felt quite lucky about finishing the season with a top place.

"We've witnessed the result because we played well in those 18 matches and showed no sign of relaxation in the regular season," she commented.

Forward Shao Ting, captain of China's national team, said, "It's a recognition of our efforts in the first half."

"No matter for me or the team as a whole, the biggest harvest from this season is to regain our confidence and heart of a champion," Zhang said. "We suffered some troubles last season, but this season we gradually rediscovered the winning mentality and desire to fight for champion."

"Everyone has displayed consistency in preparing for the resumption, which earns my satisfaction," he added.

Looking ahead, Qi and Shao shared the same target.

"Champion! It's both mentality and heritage. We have many young players. We hope to pass on the mentality generation by generation," Qi said.

"I feel quite happy about the result. Hopefully we can continue to go for the champion next season," Shao pointed out.
