MTR to extend its music instrument policy

TheMassTransitRailway(MTR)announcedonTuesdaythatitwouldmakearegistrationschemeforoversizedmusicalinstrumentsduringnon-peakhourspermanent,afteritsfour-monthtrialpassedsmoothly.

MTRsaiditissuedmorethan2,300permitsinthetrialperiod,andtherewerenoviolationsofsizerestrictionsduringthattime.Thepermitsarevaliduntiltheendof2018.

Thepolicycameafterpublicoutcryafterreportsemergedofstaffstoppingthosecarryinglargemusicalinstruments–despitephotosshowingparallel-goodstraderswheelingevenlargerobjectsbeingallowedtoboardthetrains.

Underthecurrentregulation,itemswithtotaldimensionsexceeding170cm,oranysidelongerthan130cm,arebannedfromenteringthecarriages.

HeadofOperationsFrancisLisaidthepermitswereneededsothatmusicianswerewellawareofMTR’ssafetyarrangement.HeaddedtheMTRwasnowlookingtoseeifasimilarschemecouldbeputinplaceforsomesportsequipmenttoo.“Wehopethatwecanhavesomethingdesignedwithintwoorthreemonths’timebutofcoursewewilltrytodoassoonaspossible.”
