On May 29, 2008, the first meeting of Constitution Assembly(CA) abolished 240 years' long Monarchy.

In his message to mark the seventh Republic Day of Nepal, Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China attaches great importance in developing friendly relations with Nepal and appreciates Nepal's long standing one-China policy.

Nepali President Ram Baran Yadav asked all the political parties to work in cohesion to promulgate a new constitution within the stipulated time frame. Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said promulgation of the new constitution within a year is a main target of Nepal's political parties.

Though Nepal was turned into a republic, the tasks of constitution drafting remains incomplete.
