Vietnamese parliament elects Defense-Security Council posts

Vietnamese parliament on Monday elected Vice Chairperson and members of the Council on National Defense and Security.

Accordingly, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was elected as Vice Chairman of the council at the ongoing 11th session of the 13th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam in capital Hanoi.

Meanwhile, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Minister of Public Security To Lam and Minister of National Defense Ngo Xuan Lich were voted to be members of the council.

The council is chaired by the newly-elected Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang.

Earlier, Vietnamese lawmakers agreed to relieve former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung from the duty of Vice Chairman of the council, while former NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and former Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh were relieved from duties of members of the council.

Also on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh were elected to be vice chairpersons of the National Election Council to replace former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Meanwhile, 13 new members were elected to the National Election Council on Monday to replace 12 members who were relieved from duty.

The ongoing parliament session, the final gathering of the 13th NA, is scheduled to close on Tuesday. Over the past days, Vietnamese legislature has replaced top leaders of the country, including house speaker, president and prime minister.
