Experts from a high-level group in China's National Health Commission Monday expressed confidence in controlling the novel coronavirus that spread across some major Chinese cities and Asian countries.

"We have the confidence in controlling the new coronavirus," Zhong Nanshan, one of the experts, told reporters at a media briefing on Monday, meanwhile noting people from all walks of society should be on alert.

As of Monday, over 210 cases have been confirmed across cities including China's Wuhan, Shanghai and Beijing.

Zhong said 95 percent of the cases are connected with Wuhan, either going there or coming from the city, where the mysterious pneumoniawas initially reported in December 2019.

This coronavirus, the seventh that affects people, was newly known to the world and is changing every day, Gao Fu, another expert of the high-level group told reporters.

But experts said there's no need to panic as China's prevention and control level has greatly improved in the past years.

Scientists are now pacing up research to study the origin of the virus and how it has been spreading.

Experts also warned people, especially those in Wuhan who had relevant symptoms including fever and cough, to get tested in hospitals as precaution as soon as possible.
