Iran supports the Russian proposal to place Syrian chemical weapons under international control, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham announced on Tuesday.
"Iran supports Russia's initiative and considers it as a step to put an end to the militarization of the region," Afkham said in her first weekly press briefing.
A recent Russian proposal called for Syrian chemical weapons to be placed under international control, a measure that could deter the U.S. from launching a military strike on the Arab state.
