Top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un said his country's nuclear warheads "have been standardized to be fit for ballistic missiles" through miniaturization, the official KCNA news agency reported Wednesday.

Kim said this recently when he met scientists and technicians specialized in the development of nuclear weapons and gave instructions about how to further develop the country's nuclear arsenal.

Kim debriefed the scientists on research about tipping various types of tactical and strategic ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads as well as the specifications of Korean-style miniaturized nuclear warheads.

He said the main mission for the DPRK's nuclear forces is to deter a nuclear war, adding that the more nuclear strike capability the country gets, the more powerful it will be in deterring aggression and nuclear wars.

"It is the most just and reliable way of protecting the country from a nuclear war disaster to firmly bolster up nuclear force both in quality and quantity," the KCNA quoted Kim as saying.

He also said the policy of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea for developing the national economy and nuclear weapons simultaneously is "a strategic line to be permanently held fast to," not "a temporary counter-action."

Kim stressed that making preemptive nuclear strikes is not "a monopoly" of the Untied States.

The DRPK's National Defense Commission Pyongyang threatened to make preemptive nuclear attacks in a statement on Monday, when South Korea and the United States jointly launched military drills that will run through April 30.

Code-named "Key Resolve" and "Foal Eagle", the drills are reported to be of the largest-ever scale and involve state-of-the-art weapons.

Kim ordered the military to get nuclear warheads ready for use when he recently guided a test firing of a newly developed large-caliber multiple rocket launcher.
