Jordanian government on Tuesday confirmed the killing of Jordanian pilot held captive by the Islamic State(IS), according to state-run Petra new agency.

Also on Tuesday, Jordan Armed Forces said it will take revenge for the killing of the pilot.

The army said in a statement it tried to secure his release but the criminal gang of IS insisted to kill him.

In an address broadcast by the Jordan TV, King Abdullah II of Jordan called for unity after the murder of the pilot by IS.

"We received with great sadness and anger the news about the killing of the pilot on the hands of the stray criminals of IS who has nothing to do with Islam," he said.

The king said the pilot "dies defending his religion, country and nation," adding that "it is the duty of all to be united at this difficult times, which will only make us stronger."

Relatives of Jordanian pilot also condemned his killing, and called for revenge.

Several members of the pilot started gathering in Amman after the Islamic State showed a video in which it showed the pilot burnt to death while alive.

Samer Kasasbeh called for revenge and urged Jordan to withdraw from the international coalition fighting the IS.

The pilot was captured last year after his plane crashed in Syria.

Relatives expressed their anger over killing him alive. They said he is a martyr and a national hero.

The killing of the pilot has immediately drawn condemnations from countries in the region.

In Sudan, the Sudanese foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned the killing of the pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh.

Yousif Al-Kurdofani, Sudan Foreign Ministry Spokesman, described the incident in a statement as "a heinous and brutal crime" that contradicts the principles and teachings of the Islamic religion.

He expressed his country's condolences to the Jordanian government and people, as well as to the family of the pilot.

Dr. Anwar Gargash, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) foreign minister, said on Tuesday the Gulf state condemned the "heinous assassination."

On his twitter account, Gargash said called the IS militants criminals who are a "cancer to be eradicated from our nations and our societies." Enditem
