The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW YORK -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 5.6 million on Friday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The national case count rose to 5,607,993, with the death toll in the country reaching 174,924 as of 3:27 p.m. local time (1927 GMT), according to the CSSE.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil on Friday recorded 30,355 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the national caseload to 3,532,330, according to the country's Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, 1,054 more people died of the disease, pushing the death toll to 113,358, the ministry said.

CAIRO -- Egypt recorded on Friday 123 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic to 97,148, said the country's Health Ministry.

It is the 20th consecutive day for Egypt's COVID-19 daily infections to fall below 200, after they started to surpass 200 on April 23.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday announced 391 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 66,193.

UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said in a statement the new cases are all in a stable condition and receiving medical treatment.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon's number of COVID-19 infections increased on Friday by 628 cases to 11,580 while the death toll went up by three to 116, the Health Ministry reported.

Lebanon has started on Friday a new phase of general mobilization measures and a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time.

BEIJING -- A Chinese inactivated COVID-19 vaccine has started phase-3 clinical trials in Peru, according to the vaccine developer China National Biotec Group (CNBG) affiliated to Sinopharm.

The launching ceremony of the phase-3 clinical trials was held in Beijing Thursday, and the CNBG obtained the certificate of approval for the clinical trials from Peru's Ministry of Health.
