BATANGAS CITY, Aug. 24 (APD) – Batangas State University President Tirso A. Ronquillo said a new technopark will be established in a newly-acquired three-hectare property
Speaking at the Memorandum of Agreement signed between the state university and Huawei Technologies, Philippines, Inc. on the establishment of an ICT Academy, Dr. Ronquillo said the agreement stand to benefit communications technology and engineering students.
He said they are just waiting for the Presidential proclamation to grant incentives to would-be locators as the industrial park would fall under the supervision of the government-run Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
“Ours is university-based and what makes it unique is our students can work at the technopark while fulfilling their research requirements,” he said.
“The KIST (Knowledge, Innovation, Science and Technology) Park, the first in the country, the first under PEZA where students are expected as employees and later on as entrepreneurs,” Dr. Ronquillo said.
He added the Board of Regents has allocated P200 million to develop the initial stage of the project. The whole technology park may cost P1 billion over the years and may have a Private Public Partnership to address their financial requirements.
This will be an addition to the technology business innovation approach which they have implemented earlier.
President Ronquillo said they appreciate Huawei’s partnership as the technology-driven company would provide hardware and professional training for their staff.
“Universities like us always welcome assistance from industry and we appreciate Huawei’s corporate social responsibility,” he added.

“Besides, Huawei will help prepare future talents into the ICT industry as well as support sustainable growth of the Philippines,” he said.
