Nitish Kumar, chief minister of eastern Indian state of Bihar, has called on women to destroy all local liquor factories.
"If women came to know about the country liquor manufacturing units, they should not hesitate to destroy them. For this, common people to local administration will help and support them," the chief minister said at a function in the state's Kosi region on Tuesday.
Kumar, whose government has already imposed a ban on liquor in Bihar effective this month, described the move as a social change favored by most people.
"Women are the main strength to ensure the implementation of complete liquor ban in the state," he said.
He said he would soon go to the eastern states of Jharkhand and West Bengal and the northern state of Uttar Pradesh to canvass for complete liquor ban there.
"There is increasing demand from the women of these states for a complete liquor ban in their states on the line of Bihar," he said.
Banning liquor was Kumar's pre-poll promise to the women of the state and he has kept his promise after winning the polls, despite a loss to the state exchequer. Enditem
