Some 341 feature films are eligible in the Best Picture race for the 90th Academy Awards, or the Oscars, organizers announced Tuesday.

To be eligible for Oscar consideration, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, Dec. 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Under Academy rules, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.

Feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category.

Among the 341 films advanced in the race, "The Shape of Water" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" have come to the front.

"The Shape of Water" about a mute, female janitor who is drawn into an otherworldly love affair, tops all movies with seven nods, including Best Picture, for the 75th Golden Globe nominations came out Dec. 11.

The black comedy crime film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" led the race with four nods, including best ensemble, for the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations announced Dec. 13.

Historical drama "The Post," comedy drama "Lady Bird," horror hit "Get Out," war film "Dunkirk," romantic drama "Call Me By Your Name," biographical war drama "Darkest Hour," period drama "Mudbound" and romantic comedy "The Big Sick" are also the frontrunners among other blockbusters.

Nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on Jan. 23, 2018, and the ceremony will be held on March 4 at Hollywood's Dolby Theater in the western U.S. city of Los Angeles. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
