Flash floods in the western Ugandan district of Bundibugyo have killed one person, displaced over 3,000 people and destroyed many food crops, a report by Uganda's Red Cross Society showed.
The rapid assessment report issued late on Thursday said 1,607 households, a total population of 3,257, have been affected.
The humanitarian agency said the displaced people need immediate supplies such as food, shelter, and access to safe water.
The report also said while community members need to be to evacuated from areas where water is still flowing, another COVID-19 screening point needed to be set up since the previous one there was destroyed.
The flash floods were caused after a river burst its banks following the ongoing torrential rain in the region.
Several parts of Uganda, especially western and eastern regions, are currently experiencing normal to above-normal rainfall with destructive effects, according to the Uganda National Meteorological Authority.
In its March-May seasonal rainfall outlook, the weather department warned of enhanced rainfall over several parts of the country that could cause such disasters as landslides and floods.
