The visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to Beijing, capital of China, came to an end successfully, bringing closer relations between the two nations, a Cambodian senior official said on Sunday.

"The visit has produced fruitful results," Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters while returning from Beijing with Hun Sen. "The prime minister's visit to China has not only continued strengthening bilateral ties, but also attracted Chinese investments and created friendly relations with leaders of other countries in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit."

Hun Sen toured in Beijing from Friday to Sunday to attend the Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership and the APEC Summit.

The two meetings had been chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Kao said the Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership, held on Saturday, was attended by leaders of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Tajikistan, and representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

During the meeting, Xi announced that China would contribute 40 billion U.S. dollars to set up a Silk Road Fund, which is aimed to "break the connectivity bottleneck" in Asia.

"This is a China's new mechanism to strengthen Asian economies, especially developing countries that need a lot of capital to build infrastructure," Kao said.

"The new fund truly shows a China's policy in supporting developing countries in Asia."

He said the fund will play a complementary role to the existing financial bodies such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Asian Development Bank.

For the APEC Summit on Sunday, Xi called for efforts to create and fulfill an Asia-Pacific dream, saying China's economy will bring huge opportunities and benefits to the region and the world.

The Asia-Pacific dream is about acting in the spirit of the Asia-Pacific community and out of a sense of shared destinies, following the trend of peace, development and mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly working for the prosperity and progress of the region.

"In the summit, Prime Minister Hun Sen underlined Cambodia's support for the China's initiatives on the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund," Kao said.

According to the official, on the sidelines of the meetings, Hun Sen held talks with Xi, and the two leaders vowed to further enhance bilateral ties and cooperation for the benefits of the two countries and peoples.

In addition, Hun Sen met separately with Chinese officials in a bid to encourage China's investments to Cambodia. Enditem
