APD | Nepali PM loses vote of confidence in the Parliament

Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli faced motion of confidence at the House of Representatives on Monday, in which he lost the vote of confidence.

The latest political development has triggered a fresh uncertainity at the time of pandemic.

In the voting, at least 93 lawmakers voted in favour of Oli while 124 were against, and 15 were neutral. Many others remained absent.

During the House session, Prime Minister Oli presented a list of achievements just ahead of the voting process for the vote of confidence motion.

During the process, President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairperson of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, spoke heavily against the favour of vote of confidence motion.

Moreover, the dissenting former Prime Minister duos and their supporting leaders within faction of CPN-UML didnt take part in the voting procedure a miss.

Oli has been facing widespread criticism since long time, which is in rife within his own party.

With this latest development, now the President Bidya Devi Bhandari will call the parties to reach a consensus in proposing a new candidate.

Despite of the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases, the leaders have been indulged in the political row, which has disappointed the general public who have been reeling under health crisis.
