Myanmar, Singapore vow to boost bilateral ties, cooperation

Foreign Minister of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi and her Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan on Wednesday vowed to boost bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.

The two made the pledge when they met in Nay Pyi Taw. In their meeting, they discussed education, health, agriculture and implementation of infrastructure and promotion of bilateral trade as well as holding ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Balakrishnan expressed satisfaction over Myanmar's development and Singapore's readiness to support Myanmar as a partner.

The Singaporean foreign minister arrived in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday on a three-day visit to the country.

Singapore stood as Myanmar's second largest investor after China with 13.06 billion U.S. dollars as of March 2016 since late 1988.

Myanmar-Singapore bilateral relations date back to 1966 when both countries established diplomatic ties.
