An American Airlines flight from Seoul to Dallas was diverted to Narita Airport of Tokyo on early Wednesday morning due to severe turbulence, at least 12 passengers sustaining minor injuries, local media reported.

There were about 240 passengers and a crew of 15 onboard the flight AA280, a Boeing 777-200, Japan's Kyodo News said.

After taking off for two to three hours, the flight encountered severe turbulence while flying through a rapidly intensifying winter storm.

According to the report, the injured passengers have been transported to hospital and the flight will continue on to the United States later in the day.
