Two road accidents involving three buses and a truck transporting timber left a total of 30 people dead and over 50 others injured over the weekend in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire's capital.
On Sunday, a collision between a truck coming from Abidjan and a passenger bus heading to the capital left 11 people dead and about 20 others injured.
The accident occurred just a day after another collision on Saturday between two buses along the same road, that left 19 people dead and over 30 injured.
Security sources said the two accidents were caused by dangerous overtaking.
Majority of Cote d'Ivoire citizens complained of "a bloody weekend" due to the high number of victims who died on the country's main highway linking Abidjan to Yamoussoukro in the central region.
Carelessness of drivers who overspeed and the poor state of roads are the main causes of accidents occurring frequently in the country.
Official statistics showed that 94 percent of accidents occurring in Cote d'Ivoire are caused by human error.
During a cabinet meeting held in mid-October, the government announced it had taken measures to reduce the number of road accidents estimated to have been over 4,400 across the country in the last one year alone.
