Algeria has suspended operations in its Embassy in Kyiv following Russia's military operations in Ukraine.

"The decision to suspend services came due to the security conditions in the country," a statement by the mission said.

Algeria is reported to have had around 1,000 nationals in Ukraine prior to the launch of the military operation on February 24.

The North African nation is the latest to announce temporary closure of its embassy in Ukraine, following similar moves by among others, Japan, US, Canada and Australia.

Thousands of foreign nationals in Ukraine have fled the country, but others remain stranded in the country, especially in the eastern regions.

According to the United Nations, more than 1.5 million have fled the country so far, and thousands more leave by the day.
