"Gone Girl" again tops North American Box Office

Twice Oscar nominated best director David Fincher's latest film "Gone Girl" was the most popular movie in North America in its second consecutive weekend, as three other films debuted amongst the top five draws at the box office.

Fox's "Gone Girl" is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Gillian Flynn about a husband whose wife went missing. It was on track to sell 26.8 million U.S. dollars in tickets this weekend, declining just 29 percent from last weekend's debut, according to studio estimates gathered by Rentrak, a Hollywood industry data analysis firm. The film has grossed an impressive 78. 3 million dollars in ten days.

Universal's action horror film "Dracula Untold", starring Luke Evans and directed by Gary Shore, opened in second place, with 23. 5 million dollars from 2,887 locations in United States and Canada. The action-adventure's audience skewed male, which accounted for 57 percent of the gross. Critics gave the film only a 26-percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences offered an A- rating on Cinemascore.com.

Disney's family comedy "Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" is based on the children's book by Judith Viorst. Starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner, it debuted in third place with 19.1 million dollars in estimated sales from 3, 088 theaters. Family audiences made up 67 percent of the film's overall audience. The film earned an A- CinemaScore, and 66 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

"Annabelle", in its second week of exhibition, was predicted to take in 16.4 million dollars this weekend, with a total gross of 62.2 million dollars in ten days. "The Judge" of Warner Bros. opened in fifth place with 13.3 million dollars.

Rounding out the other five of 10 most popular films in North America this weekend were "The Equalizer" (9.7 million dollars), " Addicted" (7.6 million), "The Maze Runner" (7.5 million), "The Boxtrolls" (6.7 million) and "Meet The Mormons" (2.9 million).
