Didi Chuxing, the ride-hailing giant that previously bought out rival Uber China, intends to become a premier smart traffic service provider, according to The Paper.

Cheng Wei, founder and CEO of the company, said on Thursday that Didi Chuxing will not only operate as a platform for connecting passengers and drivers, but also act as a service provider of smart traffic in the future.

Cheng said a traffic decision-making system which processes real-time data, including passerby, vehicles, road conditions and traffic lights, will be launched online.

In 2017, the company began its investment in smart traffic. It has cooperated with more than 20 cities, including Jinan, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Wuhan, to launch smart signal lights at more than 1,200 intersections.

This has helped to ease traffic congestion by 10% to 20%, according to the report.

Cheng also pointed out that in 2018, the company will conduct in-depth cooperation with 10 cities to explore a set of traffic standards, and develop model cities with smart traffic.
