U.S. Republicans oust Trump critic Liz Cheney from leadership

House Republicans on Wednesday ousted Representative Liz Cheney from her post as the chamber's No. 3 GOP leader, punishing her after she repeatedly rebuked former President Donald Trump for his claims of election fraud and his role in abetting the January 6 Capitol attack.

Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, remained defiant, vowing to prevent Trump from becoming president again.

"I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office," Cheney told reporters after she wasousted asHouse GOP conference chairduring a closed-door meeting.
