Britain's counter-terror police on Sunday searched a residential address in east London following "a violent unprovoked knife attack" at a subway station on Saturday.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service's Counter Terrorism Command are investigating the knife attack in which a man suffered serious knife-related injuries, the Metropolitan Police said Sunday in a statement.
A 29-year-old man wielded a knife and reportedly shouted "this is for Syria" before attacking commuters at Leytonstone Underground Station in east London on Saturday evening.
The attack is being treated by police as a "terrorist incident, " according to the Metropolitan Police.
Police were called at 7:06 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a number of people stabbed at the station. The suspect was also reportedly threatening other people with a knife.
Officers discharged Tasers at the attacker who was then restrained and arrested for attempted murder at 7:14 p.m.. He remains in custody at an east London police station, police said.
The officers attempted to engage with the man but were threatened with violence. Officers gave first aid to a 56-year-old man who sustained serious knife injuries. A second man sustained a minor injury during the incident. A woman was threatened by the suspect but was not injured.
The underground station reopened at 0300 GMT on Sunday.
"As a result of information received at the time from people who were at the scene and subsequent investigations carried out by the Counter Terrorism Command (SO15), I am treating this as a terrorist incident," said Commander Richard Walton, who leads the Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) of the Metropolitan Police.
"I would continue to urge the public to remain calm, but alert and vigilant. The threat from terrorism remains at severe, which means that a terrorist attack is highly likely," he added.
Police also urged witnesses to come forward and share with investigators the video footage they possess. Enditem
