A senior Philippine official said Wednesday that there is no basis on which to ban the popular video-sharing app TikTok in the Philippines.

"We have not received any solid evidence or basis for the banning of TikTok, so unless we are presented with solid evidence or basis for the banning of that app, then it will remain status quo," Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles told a virtual media forum on Wednesday.

Nograles echoed the Philippine presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who said on Tuesday that there is no reason to ban the popular app.

"I don't see any reason why TikTok should be banned in the Philippines," Roque said.

Both Nograles and Roque have joined the TikTok craze, uploading videos on the app, while TikTok's Philippine user base has soared during the country's coronavirus lockdown period.
