Smart technology reactivates venue for Chengdu FISU Games

With six days to go before the opening of the 31st Summer World University Games, the host city Chengdu is ready to present a unique and splendid event to the world.

Sichuan Gymnasium, one of the 49 venues for the Chengdu FISU World University Games, will serve as a basketball competition and warm-up venue. Two gold medals will be awarded in the basketball competition.

Of all the venues for Chengdu FISU Games, Sichuan Gymnasium is the only one that is listed as the "City Memory Old Building".

Located in Wuhou district in Chengdu, Sichuan province, the gymnasium covers a floor area of 24,900 square meters and was put into use in 1989. It used to be the first modern sports stadium in Southwest China.

To meet the standards for Chengdu FISU Games, Sichuan Gymnasium has undergone the largest renovation in more than 30 years.

Following the concept of "greenness, wisdom, vitality and sharing" for Chengdu FISU Games, the facilities of Sichuan Gymnasium are more complete, its functions are upgraded, and it becomes qualified for hosting international events.

Thanks to the use of smart technology, this old building, which has carried the development of sports in Chengdu for generations, has been able to continue its "new life".
