Myanmar opened the first school day of 2016-17 academic year on Wednesday with a new syllabus and teaching methods for kindergarten children, marking a new step taken in boosting the basic education sector.
The syllabus was initiated with the kindergarten only for this academic year as part of its efforts in improving the education system,
Experts have deliberating to introduce a new basic education system for four years, said an official of Myanmar Comprehensive Education Sector Review (CESR).
According to the new system, children are to attend 12 academic years after one-year kindergarten course of learning poems and games.
The new system differs from the old one which set 11 academic years from Grade-1 to Grade-11 before matriculation.
Teachers have been trained under the new education system which prescribes 35 students with two teachers per classroom, said a headmistress of a secondary school in Yangon.
