Shanghai Sharks took on Beikong Fly Dragons in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Friday night in a match-up marred by a confrontation between Stephon Marbury and Jimmer Fredette.

The American duo got into a scuffle in a closely-fought encounter at the end of the third quarter. Fredette, the Sharks' ex-New York Knick guard, was on the end of a hard challenge from Marbury that drew no call for fouls. The 28-year-old pushed the veteran in retaliation, sparking ugly scenes between the pair who had to be separated by teammates.

Fredette was then penalized for the push and Marbury received a technical foul for the incident.

"It was a hard foul," the Beikong guard said after the match. "I mean they didn't call the foul so, you know, he got a little frustrated, and we bumped chests. That's just what happens. It's basketball."

In addition, Fredette said the square-off was down to their competitive nature.

Shanghai came out on top 123-119 in overtime. Fredette had a game-high 54 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, while Marbury could only manage four points, six rebounds and four assists.
