Nearly 10,000 cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported in Switzerland, Federal Councilor Alain Berset said at a press briefing in Bern on Wednesday.

"We have 9,765 tested cases in the country today that are positive," said the minister, adding that it is a "significant increase but not an explosion".

According to the latest data of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, a total of 929 positive cases have been identified in the last 24 hours.

The death toll in the country has reached 103 since the first case of COVID-19 was detected a month ago in the country.

Saying that Switzerland is among the countries with highest testing rate in the world, Berset told journalists that "with 74,146 cases tested negative, we will soon reach 10,000 tests per million inhabitants".
