U.S. mask mandate varies among states

COVID-19 cases continue to surge in the United States, with almost 3.5 million cases and more than 130,000 deaths so far.

Doctors say masks are an important part of stopping the spread of the virus and saving lives.

However, the federal government has not required national mask usage, leaving the matter up to individual states.

Many states governments have in turn chosen to leave mask mandates up to regional and local governments.
