Vice President of China's Xinhua News Agency Long Xinnan said here Tuesday Xinhua is willing to step up cooperation with Egypt's State Information Service (SIS) so as to boost bilateral strategic partnership between the two countries.

Long made the remarks when addressing a ceremony during which Xinhua.net and the SIS website officially added each other's Internet link to their respective front-page.

Xinhua and the SIS signed a memorandum of understanding in January to step up their cooperation during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the North African nation, while the linkage-adding is considered a move to implement the document.

According to the memorandum, the two parties shall conduct cooperation in news reporting in texts, photos, and audio-videos, as well as in other areas like translation, printing and publications with the aim of spreading information about each other across the world in a fair and objective manner.

Also in his remarks, Long said the newly-added front-page link will not only provide another fast-track for the peoples of the two countries to better understand each other, but is also a good beginning for the two agencies to expand their cooperation.

Noting that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between China and Egypt, he said the two heads of state agreed during Xi's visit that the two nations should work even harder to promote bilateral ties so as to serve the interests of the two peoples.

Salah el-Sadek Ahmed, chairman of SIS, said Tuesday's launching ceremony bears great importance to materialize the consensus reached by the two heads of state to promote bilateral ties. He also hoped that his agency's cooperation with Xinhua in the future will be even more fruitful.

Later in the day, Long also met with Alaa Heidar, board chairman and editor in chief of MENA, Egypt's official news agency.

During the meeting, he briefed Heidar on Xinhua's latest efforts and achievements on its path of reforms, saying Xinhua would like to work with MENA in expanding their cooperation to more sectors, including economic information.
