In response, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Monday that China has seen the reports and will closely watch developments on the Nansha Islands.
Hong says China has quote, "indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha islands as well as their surrounding waters..." And opposes any move that could undermine that.
He says under the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, China hopes the Philippines will avoid actions that could raise territorial tension.
