It's been two years since a deadly mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

Residents held a moment of silence on Friday to honor the lives lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

17 people were killed on February 14, 2018 after a former student entered the school with a semiautomatic rifle and opened fire on students and teachers.

Since the massacre, the Broward County Public School system has invested millions of dollars in technology and security upgrades.

According to a gun violence research group, 2019 had the highest number of mass shootings in any year across the U.S. since it started keeping track.

It documented 417 mass shootings of which 31 were classified as mass murders... defined as incidents in which at least four people were killed.
