2017 HK and Macao media visiting week in Chongqing starts

Chongqing is a major city in Southwest China and one of the five national central cities in China. This year marks the 20th year anniversary of Chongqing to be a municipality under the central government.

The 2017 HK and Macao media visiting week in Chongqing kicked off on Monday, with media workers from the two special administrative regions expected to visit the fast-growing metropolis within the next five days.

On the first day, HK and Macao media workers visited the Chongqing Chang’an Automobile and the Golden Bay Riverside Park where they got to know the development of automobile industry and the city’s urban planning and construction. A welcome ceremony was then held at the Wanzhou district that night.

He Enyou, member of the standing committee of Wanzhou district, extended warm welcome for their visit. At the ceremony, he said he hopes the media would give concern and support the development of Wanzhou meanwhile display the great changes of Wanzhou to the Hong Kong and Macao citizens.

Zhou Bo, head of Chongqing Municipal Information Office, said that he believes everyone would experience the great change in Chongqing brought by the Three Gorges Project. He said, “I hope we can resort to the HK and Macao media to better introduce Chongqing to HK and Macao, and to appeal to HK and Macao people travel and invest in Chongqing. I believe Chongqing will promise everyone a good result.”

Liu Xiaodong, chief editor of Hong Kong Commercial Daily, said the theme of this activity is to perceive new changes in Chongqing, which means to feel the warm welcome and understand its development.

Ma Ranxi, Deputy head of Chongqing Municipal Information Office, presided over the welcome ceremony.

Xu Ting, head of Education and Culture Department at Macao Liaison Office hoped that HK and Macao media could introduce Chongqing to the world, adding the visiting week is a wonderful publicity platform for Chongqing that would show their rapid growths.

All HK and Macao journalists and editors participated in the welcome ceremony and expressed their ideas.

The reporter from HK-based Sing Tao Daily said, “The automated machines in the Chongqing Chang’an Automobile factory are amazing. We got to know their fast development, which is really good.”

Gao Yingzhu from the China Review News said: “The arrangement is awesome. I’m expecting the following visits, hoping to obtain more information about Chongqing.”

Li Likui from the China Daily Hong Kong Edition said: “I hope to see more communication between Hong Kong and Chongqing as well as other inland cities. Especially in the Belt and Road Initiative, I hope Hong Kong and Chongqing can learn from each other and offer mutual benefits so as to achieve common development.”

The Hong Kong and Macao media visiting week initiated in 2003, and have successfully held 12 times.
