Myanmar will get 200 million U.S. dollars' aid from the World Bank for post-disaster relief for the year 2015 under Flood and Landslide Emergency Recovery project, official media reported Monday.

The project, which will focus on the worst-hit areas and villages in Ayeyawaddy, Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Chin and Rakhine regions and states, will fund repairs to rural roads and help introduce disaster and climate resilient approaches in the road sector.

The flood and landslide, that swept the country between July and September 2015, displaced over 1.6 million people and caused 132 fatalities across the country with a total economic loss estimated at 3.1 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014-15, according to Myanmar government's Post-Flood and Landslide Needs Assessment carried out with the assistance from development partners including the World Bank.

The transport sector was the worst hit, accounting for about 50 percent of the total damage in the public domain. Damage and loss in the agricultural sector have left a major impact on the people. Small businesses, individual facilities and farmers suffered the worst with loss of income and livelihood compounded by loss of assets and reduced access to social services, the report added.
