Czech health ministry spokeswoman Stepanka Cechova announced on Wednesday that a spa in Karlova Studanka, north Moravia would treat about 120 Chinese child patients who are suffering from respiratory diseases. The agreement was signed by Czech health minister Svatopluk Nemecek during Czech President Milos Zeman's October visit to China.

Under the medical tourism agreement, all costs would be covered by China, said Cechova. She said Nemecek also signed a memorandum on strategic cooperation of the two countries' health systems including a Chinese-sponsored project to build a traditional Chinese medicine clinic in the Czech city of Hradec Kralove. The project would involve Czech spas Lazne Velichovky and Lazne Bohdanec, as well as Xiangya Medical School hospital and the health department of China's Hunan province.

Health offices of Chinese cities Tianjin and Shanghai are also interested in investing in the project. Nemecek said the traditional Chinese medicine center in Hradec Kralove would become a pilot project for other European countries.

China hoped the Czech-Chinese health cooperation could be expanded to 16 Eastern and Central European countries.
