Japan, Canada agree to work closely on combating terrorism during 2-plus-2 security talks

Japan and Canada will work closely together to combat terrorism as agreed Tuesday during so-called 2- plus-2 security talks held in Tokyo between vice foreign and defense ministers of both countries.

The talks were held ahead of a Group of Seven summit to be held in Japan in May at which the participating countries will adopt a counter-terrorism resolution as militant groups such as the Islamic State, who claimed responsibility for deadly terror attacks in Paris and Brussels, have vowed more bloodshed.

The talks were held between Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama and Vice Minister of Defense for International Affairs, Toru Mimura, and Canada's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Jean and Deputy Minister of National Defense, John Forster.

It is the third time the 2-plus-2 security talks have been held between Japan and Canada.
