China announced a plan to build a new city 100 kilometers to the south of Beijing on April 1, 2017. One year later, Xiongan New Area is becoming an attractive option for tech companies.

Twelve companies from Zhongguancun, which is often called China’s Silicon Valley, have now signed agreements in principle to move from Beijing to Xiongan.

Wang Shuqi, brand director of Beijing Eyecool Technology Co. Ltd, a high-tech company in the Chinese capital, envisions many prospects with Xiongan’s adaption of technology.

Wang, one of the foremost experts in her field, said,

“It has good soil for technology because we could do it from the ground up.”

Inside her office in Beijing, she is exhilarated with the latest agreements with Xiangtan and believes the possibilities of smart technology in the city will be endless.

Xiongan's rise has also interested young researchers abroad. Yang Jingzhou, a 3D printing expert at Harvard Medical School in the US, has decided to build his own lab in Xiongan. He has submitted proposals to develop a 3D printing business and has received some very positive feedback from Xiongan’s authority. “Xiongan will definitely become a fertile ground for high-end entrepreneurs because the position of the city is the center of innovation and high-end industry," he said."I am very confident of it.”

Among the many roles that Xiongan will play is a home for innovation. But the question is whether Xiongan will curry favor with the high-tech companies that have shown interest. “Public service involves policy, government efficiency and other active services. The key is in people’s mind, it’s mindset,” said Professor Wang Jinying, a member of the Xiongan Research Center. “Shenzhen has such good development because it provides better services in these areas, especially the government’s service for the real economy.”

So far, at least 48 companies have registered in Xiongan. Most are in green-tech, high-end services and high-tech research sectors. The best promotion for Xiongan will be for companies to succeed here.
